Heavy Metal Truants

On the 2012 Truants Marrakesh Bike Ride Rod approached fellow Truant, Metal Guru and Metal Hammer Editor Alex Milas about joining him in starting a new Charity Ride called Heavy Metal Truants in 2013, the idea being to persuade a team from the Metal community to cycle from London to the prime UK Metal Festival, Download, at Castle Donington over a three day period, arriving just in time for the start of the Festival. Alex took up the challenge and Metal fans, bands and music biz luminaries were signed up to undertake the challenge, which around 35 gleefully did and £94,000 was raised. Following this first success the Heavy Metal Truants Bike Ride, London to Download, has become an annual event with more riders signing up and more money raised, a total of £338,000 to date.

The fifth HM Truants Ride will be June 8 to 10 2017

The funds are raised to be shared equally between the Truants adopted Children’s Charities, – Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy, Teenage Cancer Trust and ChildLine/NSPCC
